Knowledge Exchange: Transplanting of Seedlings
As a next step to the seed germination workshop held in July, this activity involved having the participants from the previous workshop replant their seedlings into larger pots to accommodate and encourage their growth. Children had the chance to share their observations of their germinating seedlings and discuss the factors that aided or hindered their growth. The workshop provided an opportunity to learn about the physical steps involved in preparing for a plant’s continued development and also reinforced scientific lessons about requirements for its growth through real-time observation. Furthermore, careful selection of the seed species and their relevance to the local context ensured that the children could take the seedlings home and integrate them into their domestic environments and, in turn, into the urban fabric of Al Manakh.
