Journeys into Architectural Archives is a long-term initiative dedicated to generating knowledge of the region from within. The programme explores how architectural histories—often dispersed across public and private collections—can be brought into dialogue to build a more layered and interconnected understanding of the built environment.

Through a series of exhibitions and research-led projects, the programme examines archival material from across a broad geography spanning West and South Asia, as well as North and East Africa, highlighting the diverse ways in which architectural knowledge is preserved, interpreted, and shared. Developed in collaboration with regional practitioners, institutions, and researchers, the initiative foregrounds both established and lesser-known narratives embedded within these archives.

To date, the programme has commissioned two exhibitions, with the first presented in 2023 and the second currently in development. These exhibitions bring together archival documents, models of unbuilt projects, and documentary material—including interviews, site visits, and conversations with architects, archivists, and community members—offering accessible entry points into the region’s architectural histories.

By connecting archives across geographies and contexts, Journeys in Architectural Archives seeks to foster sustained research, dialogue, and collaboration. The programme ultimately aims to strengthen relationships between institutions and practitioners while contributing to a broader, evolving understanding of the region’s architectural heritage.
