Another City is Possible: Mediating Architecture
On January 31, 2026, Sharjah Architecture Triennial presented an in-conversation titled Another City is Possible: Mediating Architecture. Led by Vyjayanthi Rao and Tau Tavengwa, Curator and Associate Curator of SAT03, the discussion was moderated by Kenneth Bailey, co-founder of Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI), an organisation that works with communities, artists and social justice practitioners to imagine and rebuild public spaces to be more equitable and vibrant.
The conversation examined how urban space is produced not only through buildings and infrastructure, but through social relations, narratives and cultural practice. By foregrounding the importance of process, storytelling and creative intervention as forms of architectural agency, the event situated itself within the conceptual framework of Architecture Otherwise, the forthcoming Triennial, which interrogates how architectural practice might generate new modes of care, solidarity and collective life in conditions of rapid urbanisation.
