Sharmeen is a researcher and cultural worker. She is broadly interested in critical development studies, decoloniality, and transnational feminist theories. Her research is invested in reworking conformed relations of spatial governance, migrant precarity, and environmental rights. Sharmeen has previously worked with nonprofits and organisations including Visualizing Palestine, Ralph Appelbaum Associates, and the Sharjah Art Foundation. She was a Design Architect on the team for the Mureijah Art Spaces, shortlisted for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, and a Production Architect on urban interventions for Sharjah Biennials 10 and 11. Her independent research has been exhibited on platforms including Hamburger Bahnhof Museum for Contemporary Art, Gulf Research Centre Cambridge, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Art Dubai, Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, Asia Europe Foundation, Villa Vassilieff, Betonsalon, Mithila Bhavan Akhara Ayodhya and the Independent Museum of Contemporary Art in Limassol. She joined the Sharjah Architecture Triennial as a Research and Strategy Consultant in 2018 and is currently charting the institution's Research Initiative, which is positioned to cultivate critical inquiry and collective thinking on socio-urban issues.
